Tell Me Something New: Rumer

This is an artist that I've only discovered in very recently. Rumer released her debut single "Slow" on 30th August and her debut album "Seasons Of My Soul" is released on 1st November.

She's currently on tour supporting Jools Holland before ending the year playing some smaller venues on her own.

She has a mellow, almost M.O.R sound that has drawn comparisons with Karen Carpenter, Carole King and Joni Mitchell, which is understandable, but perhaps a little unfair on an artist who is just starting out on her solo career.

I'm still getting to grips with her material but I think she has a nice voice. Have a listen to her debut single and see what you think.

Meanwhile In Bilston

I've got out of the habit of writing reviews of every single gig I've been to but some gigs you simply can't let pass without comment - and last Sunday's gig by Panic Room at The Robin2 was one of them.

They are a band that I've followed/supported from the beginning but last Sunday they were simply magnificent. Tracks from their excellent new album "Satellite" made up the bulk of the set but it was pleasing to see the inclusion of four tracks from their debut album "Visionary Position" too.

The band played with real energy and obvious enthusiasm which was matched by an appreaciative audience. The (very loud!) cheers that followed the band's encore ('Satellite') left Anne Marie looking visably moved. A very good night all round.

Also have to give a shout out to support band Rude Tiger who were a tight, energetic and impressive young band from Devon who are well worth investigating further:

And finally I've included a few pictures from the concert below this post, all of which were taken by my good self. I'm slowly getting the hang of this photography lark!

Spirit Of The Night

Now here's one for the Christmas list! This is "Spirit of The Night - Live In Cambridge 2009" and it's the CD/DVD of Asia's storming headline set that closed the Cambridge Rock Festival in 2009. My friend Dave and myself were both in the crowd that night. It was a very special evening, and a great way to end a fabulous weekend of which I have nothing but fond memories.

It's released October 15th and further details can be viewed here: Asia - Spirit Of The Night DVD/CD

And if you want to read what I thought about the gig at the time then here's what I wrote last summer! Under Cambridge Skies

Tell Me Something New: Chantel Mcgregor

Chantel McGregor is a delightful young woman who hails from Yorkshire. Oh, and she also happens to be a red hot blues guitarist with a talent WAY beyond her years.

I saw her first on You Tube, then at the Cambridge Rock Festival and again earlier this month at Wolverhampton's Little Civic.

She has yet to release her debut CD, but my word can she play! Bright future beckons methinks. Don't just take my word for it - see for yourself!

Get Outta My Way!

Her Divine Kylieness returns with the second single from her album "Aphrodite" entitled "Get Outta My Way". Sounding fabulous and looking gorgeous (in spectacular shoes) as always!

England Rocks!

Def Leppard - According to this months "Record Collector" magazine Def Leppard - and I quote - "issue a live/studio set in 2011, with a photo book, encyclopedia, box set and new album". I've been on their website and can see no absolutely no mention of this but I guess they must have their sources. Watch this space I guess!

In the meantime Vivien Campbell is touring with Thin Lizzy & Joe Elliott has just released the debut album by his side project Down N Outz. The video to their debut single "England Rocks" can be viewed here:

Duran Duran - The next round of Duran Duran "Deluxe Editions" arrives on 27th September with 2CD + 1 DVD editions of "Notorious" and "Big Thing". "Notorious" contains three bonus remixes & a 12 track bonus CD with five live cuts. The 15 track DVD contains 11 "Working For The Skin Trade" tracks, three promotional videos and an appearance from Top Of The Pops in 1986.

Buggles - Trevor Horn & Geoff Downes reunite on 28th September for a very special concert in which they will perform the classic "The Age Of Plastic" album in its entireity. Tickets are £100, or VIP tickets of £300 with all proceeds going to the Royal Hospital for Neuro Disability. The venue is the rather swish "Supperclub" in London. Further details can be found on Trevor Horn's website here: Buggles - The Lost Gig

Yoso - "Who?", I hear you cry. Well, they are a collaboration between ex-Toto frontman Bobby Kimball and former Yes members Tony Kaye and Billy Sherwood. If you fancy catching them live then they will be playing the new Birmingham venue The HMV Institute in October Yoso Official Website

Cheryl Cole - Cheryl Cole releases her autobiography "Through My Eyes" on 30th  September. Great news for fans of the winsome Geordie lass; probably not so great if you're a certain Chelsea left-back....
