Woo-Hoo!!

Some days you just have days where all the planets seem to align and everything goes your way. Today was one of those days...

I had the day off work and my first mission was to try and get tickets for Kylie's concerts at Wembley Arena on 2nd or 3rd January. The phone lines were continually engaged & the Bookings Direct website and the Wembley Arena website crashed under the weight of demand as both dates sold out in six minutes flat.

Fortunately I was logged on to the forum on Kylie's official site at the time and some angel had posted a link to the Ticketmaster site which still had a few tickets remaining. I clicked on the link which said I had 1 minute to complete my details or else lose my place in the queue.

I typed in my details as fast as I could, fully expecting to receive a 'Sorry - Sold Out' message...but instead received a confirmation saying I had two tickets for 2nd January -which was the date I really wanted.

When this message came up I didn't really believe it. So I checked my email which already had a confirmation from Ticketmaster. I was actually shaking at this point. Then I leapt in the air and shouted when it finally sunk in; then I sat on the stairs and cried! I've had a big silly grin on my face all day!

And this is just booking the ticket - Lord knows what I'll be like at the concert itself...

Meanwhile back at Molineux the board have made a superb decision to appoint ex Eire and Sunderland manager Mick McCarthy as our new manager. He would have been my choice all along. I have a lot of respect and admiration for Mick McCarthy, I like his style of management and I am VERY happy that he is our new manager.

On top of all that my new season ticket arrived today; my tickets for Asia in December have arrived; I'm going on holiday tomorrow for a week (yay!) and I'm being asked to help out with the services at church when I come back - which I love - because I enjoy the responsibility of all that.

For today at least - The Future's So Bright I Gotta Wear Shades...!

Also due later in the year is 'The Slade Live Anthology' consisting of Slade Alive (1971) Slade Alive II (1978) Slade On Stage (1982) and the Slade Alive At Reading EP (1980).

Adam Ant - Publishes his autobiography 'Stand & Deliver' on 15 September. Should make for interesting reading...

Genesis - And this one devoted to Genesis...

Anyway - Video time...

Def Leppard - Slang (Video)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xPNEtwEFzXI
One of my favourite Def Leppard videos.

Paul McCartney - Press (Video)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PLSKNzT0Ve8&search=paul%20mccartney

I went to a couple of concerts in London in the summer of 1986 when this song came out and it this video always reminds me of those times and brings back some nice memories. Thanks Macca!

Abba - Tiger (TV Special 1976)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wWQ7wrPyUe0

Very moody clip this one...

AC/DC - You Shook Me All Night Long (video)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bomv-6CJSfM

Funny (and politically incorrect) video from the 1980 'Back In Black' album. The model in the video is former Page 3 girl Corrinne Russell.

Kylie Minogue - Did It Again (video)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SRwQlxCmenk

This video isn't shown all that often on TV compared to some of Kylie's other videos - which is a pity as it's a good song with a cool video.

Sport Relief.

Well, it was a glorious sunny day in Birmingham and a Bloxwich Dolphins team of Colin, Dave, Tony & myself took part in the Birmingham Sport Relief Mile. Great fun and for a hugely worthwhile cause.

Anyway, it's Saturday so it's video time.

Anything She Does - Genesis (Video)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Oju5Fuc8tQg&search=anything%20she%20does

Dave & myself went to see Genesis at Wembley Stadium in 1987 (the concert finished late and we slept the night at London Euston train station - but that's another story!). This was the video that they played immediately prior to the band coming on stage. It works very well in that context. Besides the video features the much missed Benny Hill and the gorgeous Maria Whittaker - so what more could you ask for!

Thunder - Dirty Love (Video)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cDyqEQhQTLQ

Still a great kick-ass rock song. "Dedicated to..."

World Turning (live) - Fleetwood Mac

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uXjfj3ruv8A

This is what You Tube is for! A fascinating 1976 live performance of the Buckingham/McVie track.

Astronomy Domine - Pink Floyd

The Syd Barrett led Floyd in full flow...

She Blinded Me With Science - Thomas Dolby (Video)

We were talking about this song at work this week - so here it is...

A Weird July

It's been a weird last ten days!

England have been knocked out of the World Cup; Glen Hoddle has resigned as Wolves manager; there have been changes at work that have created upheaval and stress for everybody; I've discovered that I've only got 12 months to complete my NVQ - which means a LOT of home working and more than I had envisaged; my recurring stomach pains have been..well...recurring (which, pain/discomfort aside, is frustrating because it takes me down through the gears when I want to put the pedal to the metal); and on Thursday I had a day off work to take my Mom to the hospital for a colonoscopy and biopsy.

Still it's not been all bad - I got a good haul from the charity shops and the HMV sale prior to the England game, I bumped into an old college friend I'd not seen in 15 years, my new numbered and lettered Wolves shirt arrived in the mail, I finally got round to listening to the new Def Leppard album "Yeah!" (which is excellent), discovered a great track called "Gift Of Cool" by Rock N Roll Worship Circus, took part in a dramatic Bible reading at Church, prepared for the Sport Relief Mile on 15th July where we're entering a team and I got to be with or hear from three of my best friends.

The bottom line is though I'm running on empty. My last week off was last year - and I'm exhausted. Things are getting me down in ways that they really shouldn't. I NEED A HOLIDAY!!!

Anyway - to cheer myself up, and maybe you guys too, this weeks videos are all from the wonderful Weird Al Yankovic

Not Again!

I'm gutted. Absolutely gutted.

Penalties - yet again. 1990, 1996, 1998, 2004 and now 2006. 'The Hand Of God' in 1986. Dodgy disallowed goals in 1998 & 2004. I'm an Englishman and I love my country and it hurts every time.

There seems to be a lot of blame heading Wayne Rooney's way for what is percieved to be 'violent conduct'; a moment of firey, hot-headed stupidity that cost England dear. I don't agree with this view.

Rooney was being fouled by two players - one of whom has hold of his arm and the other pulling his shirt. Rooney could have dived to win a free kick, but no, he was honest and determined and tried to win the ball. Check the action replays - at no point did Wayne Rooney take his eyes off the ball. At no point did he look to see where his opponent was. I'm not convinced that the supposed 'stamping' was intentional. And if it's not intentional then it's not a red card, any more than Maniche standing on Beckham's ankle is red card.

What message does it send when certain players - and we've seen them in this World Cup - fall to the floor at the slightest contact, or go down clutching their face in an attempt to con the referee and end up with a free kick or getting their opponent sent off. Where's the Fair Play' in that?

Full credit to Christiano Ronaldo for being man enough to conduct a post match interview, saying that he only went up to the referee to say 'This is a foul!' and not to get Wayne Rooney sent off as Wayne Rooney is his "friend". Maybe. But why go rushing up to the referee saying 'This is a foul' when the referee is already there and has awarded a foul in Portugal's favour? And only Ronaldo himself can know what he meant by pre match 'banter' with Rooney, the conspirational wink and purse of the lips to his team mates after Rooney was sent off. Draw your own conclusions...

As angry as I am about all of this and as proud as I am of England's players who ran themselves into the ground, I can't blame our defeat on this. Tactically we were found wanting. As in previous tournaments Sven welded us into a decent team but failed to get the best out of his players when it mattered. We never really clicked into gear and showed what we are capable of. We were faced with injuries to our two main strikers and we didn't take adequate cover to prepare for that. And for that Sven has to take the three lions share of the blame.

Forty years of hurt...and counting...
